Current Political  and Travel Climate

The recent earthquake in Port-au-Prince has temporarily closed the international airport there to commercial flights, thought airlines have announced they should be flying there again in mid-February. The largest concerns at present are making way for disaster and emergency response aircraft to land in the city.

NWHCM is closely monitoring the situation in Port-au-Prince. As soon as commercial flights resume, we will again begin flying groups into the international airport in Port-au-Prince as long as we feel it is safe to do so. Once at the airport, visiting groups will immediately begin traveling to Northwest Haiti. Northwest Haiti has been largely undamaged by recent earthquakes and continues to be a safe place for visiting groups.

In the event that NWHCM deems travel through Port-au-Prince unsafe, we will arrange for groups to use alternate flights through other cities in Haiti.

Northwest Haiti Christian Mission takes utmost care to provide chaperones and escorts for all visitors who travel outside the mission’s main compound in Saint-Louis du Nord. NWHCM travelers are transported in marked mission vehicles with skilled and professional staff. The mission has an excellent track record of facilitating safe, rewarding missions trips.
