The staff of Northwest Haiti Christian Mission is a diverse group of individuals and families who serve from offices in Haiti and the United States.  Because we strive to practice excellent stewardship in everything we do, many of our staff are support-based.

Haiti-Based Staff

Jody Castillo – Travel Manager

Jody CastilloJody Castillo has served in various capacities at Northwest Haiti Christian Mission for almost her entire life.  The daughter of NWHCM founding director Larry Owen, Jody grew up traveling frequently to Haiti.  She moved to Haiti full-time in 2002, when she ran a pediatric clinic and eventually became the mission’s travel coordinator.

As travel coordinator, Jody facilitates flight and transportation arrangements for visitors, and works with other NWHCM staff to coordinate group ministry activities.  She earned a B.S. in nursing at the University of Kentucky, where she also met her husband, Jose.  They live in Saint-Louis du Nord with their seven children. Jose Castillo – Technology Director

Jose CastilloJose Castillo serves as the facilities manager of Northwest Haiti Christian Mission’s main campus in Saint-Louis du Nord, and also maintains communications technology for all NWHCM’s Haiti operations.  He and his wife, Jody, moved to Haiti full-time in 2002.  When not running around northwest Haiti with bags full of computer parts and assorted cables, Jose helps Jody run their home in Saint-Louis du Nord and care for their seven children.

Jose was born in Honduras and moved to the United States when he was 10 years old.  He studied computer engineering at Sullivan University in Lexington, Kentucky, and also serves on NWHCM’s board of directors.

Melissa Curtice – Assistant Medical Director

Melissa CurticeMelissa Curtice joined Northwest Haiti Christian Mission full-time in 2008, having visited the mission and served on short-term trips for nearly seven years prior.  As assistant medical director, Melissa supervises the mostly-national medical staff in our clinic and birthing center.

Melissa earned a bachelor’s in nursing from the University of Missouri, a masters in nursing and a nurse midwife certification from the University of Kansas.  Before working at Northwest Haiti Christian Mission, she served with four other missions in various parts of Haiti.  She splits her time between Saint-Louis du Nord, Haiti, and Kansas City, where she maintains a nursing position at Truman Medical Center.  She was named a 2009 Hero in Healthcare by Ingram’s Magazine.  Click here to view Melissa’s personal blog.*

Mike Grant – Director of Evangelism and Minister Development

Mike GrantMike Grant and his wife, Teresa, moved to Haiti in 2007 to direct church and church-leader development for Northwest Haiti Christian Mission.  Mike oversees our Bible college and ministerial training programs, while also preaching regularly in churches across northwest Haiti and teaching ministry classes and seminars.

Mike served in full-time ministry for 27 years at churches in the midwestern and southeastern United States before joining the mission.  He had been traveling to Haiti on short-term trips every year since the early 1990s.  He earned a BA in preaching from Florida Christian College and a masters of ministry from Mid South Christian College.  He and Teresa live in Beauchamp, Haiti.  They have three children and three grandchildren living in the United States.  Click here to view the Grant’s personal blog.*

Teresa Grant – Missionary (Beau Champ)

Teresa GrantTeresa Grant lives at Northwest Haiti Christian Mission’s Beauchamp campus with her husband, Mike.  Teresa oversees the day-to-day activities of the campus and facilitates short-term groups when they stay there.  She also organizes Sewing H.O.P.E. in Beauchamp, a women’s ministry and community development program.

Teresa served alongside Mike in U.S. churches for nearly three decades while raising three children with him.  She owns one of the best-kept horses in all of Haiti.  Click here to view the Grant’s personal blog.*

Melonnie Kelly – Group Coordinator

KellyMelonnie0609WebMelonnie Kelly first visited Northwest Haiti Christian Mission in 2002, after which time she began leading short-term teams to the mission multiple times a year.  Melonnie joined NWHCM full-time in 2009.  She works with visiting groups to help their ministry be as effective as possible, and she also supervises NWHCM’s summer intern staff.

Melonnie is actively involved in the worship and youth ministries at her home church, Tomoka Christian in Ormond Beach, Florida.  She divides her time between Haiti and her home in the United States, where she lives with her husband and three children.  Click here to view Melonnie’s personal blog.*

Maureen Moore – Lab and Pharmacy Director

Maureen MooreAfter helping establish the lab at Northwest Haiti Christian Mission’s clinic in 2000, Maureen Moore returned in 2001 as the full-time lab technician.  Today she supervises our lab and pharmacy, and the national staff that runs them.  She also helps manage the mission’s sizable inventory of surgical supplies.

The daughter of a Royal Dutch Shell employee, Maureen grew up all over the world, spending much of her young life in Africa.  She earned her registered technologist certification in Hamilton, Ontario, where she also taught medical laboratory technology at Mohawk College.  She divides her time between Saint-Louis du Nord and a home in Bermuda.

Heather Owen – Missionary (Saint-Louis du Nord)

Heather OwenHeather Owen moved to Haiti with her husband, Janeil, in 2001.  In addition to her full-time job as a wife and mother, she is a leader in discipling the women among NWHCM’s missionaries in Haiti.

Heather studied business administration and management at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Missouri.  She interned at the mission two times before marrying Janeil and joining the mission staff to help manage an orphanage in Port-a-Paix.  They moved to Saint-Louis du Nord in 2007 after Janeil became NWHCM’s executive director.  They split their time between Haiti and their home in Versailles, Kentucky.  They have four beautiful young children.  Click here to view the Owen’s personal blog.*

Courtney Pierce – Miriam Center Director

As a college student, Courtney Pierce had a heart for ministry with special-needs children that almost took her to Africa, but a chance encounter brought her joyfully to Haiti, instead.  Courtney visited Northwest Haiti Christian Mission twice on short-term trips before joining the full-time staff in late 2008 as director and advocate for the multi-faceted Miriam Center, NWHCM’s special-needs orphanage.

Pierce hails from Fullerton California and she is proud of her “Californianess.”  She studied children’s ministry and Bible education.  She lives at the mission’s main campus in Saint-Louis du Nord and loves reading and making art of unthinkable creativity.  Click here to view Courtney’s personal blog.*

Curtis Rogers – Community Development Coordinator

Curtis RogersCurtis Rogers first came to Haiti on a short-term trip when he was 15. He interned at Northwest Haiti Christian mission multiple times, including a stint working in our U.S. warehouses, before moving to La Baie des Moustiques in 2008.  Curtis coordinates many of our agricultural and community development efforts in that community and others across northwest Haiti.  He also works closely with staff in Saint-Louis du Nord to facilitate traveling short-term missions groups.

Originally from Lexington, Kentucky, Curtis earned a B.A. in biblical studies from Cincinnati Christian University and has a strong obsession with University of Kentucky basketball.  He lives with his wife, Danielle, and their dog, Che, at their home in “The Bay.”  Click here to view the Rogers’ personal blog.*

Danielle Rogers – Missionary (Baie des Moustiques)

Danielle RogersDanielle Rogers came to Haiti full-time with her husband, Curtis, in 2008.  She had traveled to Haiti multiple times before, including an internship at a Northwest Haiti Christian Mission orphanage.  Danielle facilitates short-term groups when they travel to the mission’s campus at La Baie des Moustiques, and is overseeing the planning and development of a new children’s home there.

Danielle grew up near the beach in Long Island, New York.  She earned an associate’s degree in early childhood education from Bluegrass Community and Technical College in Lexington, Kentucky.  She and Curtis live in La Baie des Moustiques, where she once again lives close to the beach.  Click here to view the Rogers’ personal blog.*

Grant Roszkowiak – Missionary (Saint-Louis du Nord)

RoszkowiakGrant0609WebGrant Roszkowiak first visited NWHCM when he was 18 on a trip that prompted him to pursue a career in overseas missions.  He returned to the mission on a short-term trip in 2007 and interned there the following year before joining NWHCM’s full-time staff in 2009.  Grant works closely with youth in Saint-Louis du Nord and is also developing an active sports ministry, including his participation on the city’s soccer team.

Originally from Savannah, Georgia, Grant earned a B.A. in Christian education and ministry from Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois, where he played football and read a lot of C.S. Lewis.  He has served with short-term missions teams in Senegal and also worked with orphans in South Africa.  Click here to view Grant’s personal blog.*

U.S.-Based Staff

Brent Bramer – Next Generation Mobilization

Brent Bramer serves to mobilize youth and college students to find creative ways to invest themselves in making a difference in Haiti. He oversees Northwest Haiti Christian Mission’s daughter ministry, Help Heal Haiti, a tool for raising awareness of sustainable ministry in the Northwest.

Before joining NWHCM, Brent served as the high school minister at Northside Christian Church in the greater Louisville area, where he also helped lead worship. He first visited Haiti in 2007 as part of a team participating in the mission’s Neighbors Project. He earned a BA in Biblical Studies from Cincinnati Christian University. He lives in Louisville with his wife, Jenna, and their two children.

Barb Enata – Stateside Travel Liaison

Barb Enata is part of Northwest Haiti Christian Mission’s travel coordination team. As Stateside Travel Liaison, she works with short-term travelers to prepare them for trips and set them up for an effective ministry experience in Haiti.

Before joining NWHCM, Barb served as a student minister and youth mission-trip coordinator at Northside Christian Church in the greater Louisville area. She first visited Northwest Haiti in 2007, where she saw first-hand the life-changing power of youth missions. Barb earned a BA in ministry from Lincoln Christian University and lives in New Albany, Indiana.

Cameron Mayhill – Director of Development

MayhillCameron0609WebCameron Mayhill joined Northwest Haiti Christian Mission in 2009, having served for eight years as Director of Mission Resources with FAME, a medical evangelism organization.  Cameron first visited Northwest Haiti the previous year, working to bolster NWHCM’s clinic and surgical ministries.

Cameron brings with him a passion for building relationships and connecting God’s resources to those who desperately need them. He lives with his wife, Jennifer, and their two daughters in Sheridan, Indiana.  Cameron earned a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University.

Andy Olsen – Media Director / Staff Photojournalist

Andy OlsenAndy Olsen first came to Haiti on a newspaper assignment and returned various times to document the work of Northwest Haiti Christian Mission, particularly in the aftermath of devastating hurricanes in 2008.  He joined the mission full-time in 2009.

Andy manages media communications for the mission and serves as its principal photographer.  He studied Spanish and journalism at Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky.  Before joining the mission, he worked as a commercial photographer and served as a photographer and editor at a Kentucky business magazine.  He lives with his wife, Erika, in Lexington, Kentucky.  They travel frequently to Haiti together.

Erika Olsen –Sponsorship Coordinator

Erika OlsenErika Olsen joined Northwest Haiti Christian Mission in 2009 after traveling to Haiti on several short-term trips.  Erika serves as Sponsorship Coordinator for the children’s homes (Saline Mayette) and education programs.

Erika studied Spanish at Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky.  She worked for several years as a community outreach worker at the Bluegrass Community Health Center, a clinic for marginalized immigrants and farmworkers.  She also taught high school Spanish and helped run a commercial photography business with her husband, Andy.  They live together in Lexington, Kentucky, with their little white dog.

Mary Beth Winkler – Saint-Louis du Nord Sponsorship Coordinator

Mary Beth WinklerMary Beth Winkler has coordinated child sponsorship for Northwest Haiti Christian Mission since 1998.  In particular, she oversees sponsorship for children’s programs in and around the mission’s main campus in Saint-Louis du Nord.  She is also a valuable part of the administrative staff in our U.S. office.

Mary Beth traveled on short-term trips to Haiti multiple times before joining the NWHCM staff.  Previously, she worked for the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.  She studied Christian education at Lincoln Christian College in Lincoln, Illinois.  Mary Beth lives in Versailles, Kentucky, and travels frequently to Haiti.
