Cross About us

Welcome! The Northwest Haiti Christian Mission was established in 1979 after a group of missionaries traveled to Haiti and saw the need for a mission devoted to Christian beliefs. They also witnessed severe physical suffering and the hopelessness of the Haitian people. In August 2003, the Haitian government awarded the mission the Organization Non-Government (ONG) status.

The mission’s main campus is in the city of Saint-Louis du Nord. This campus has a church, Bible college, school, medical facilities, home for elderly Haitians, home for special needs children, and nutritional facilities. This is the campus where American work teams reside when they come with us on mission trips.

Another large campus is located in Port de Paix. A church and orphanage were started there in 1979. Many people had died during a seven year drought, leaving children with no one to care for them.

We also have churches and schools in La Croix, Far West (a new clinic opened here in 2005), La Pointe, and Anse-a-Foleur.

See the complete list of programs to learn more about all these areas.

The mission’s headquarters is located in Frankfort, Kentucky. Janeil Owen is the Executive Director. His wife, Heather, is Orphanage Sponsorship Director. Mary Beth Winkler is the Sponsorship director, and Pam Shelton is the Travel Coordinator. Diana Owen is the Public Relations Director. Thousands of pounds of clothing, food, and medicine are received at the Frankfort office where they are then sorted, repacked, and shipped to Haiti for distribution.
