Mission Trips with NWHCM

The Basics

• Our standard mission trip length is 10 to 14 days, but we will accept applications for trips of other lengths. See our Ways to Serve and Neighbors Project sections for ideas on how you or your team could serve while in Haiti.
• When serving with NWHCM, we coordinate your travel, housing, food, and logistics for ministry. We have been hosting short-term mission teams for more than 30 years and we see you as a vital part of who we are and what we do.
• We welcome mission teams of all sizes, as well as individuals who want to serve in our ongoing ministries. We are also open to families who want to serve together.
• If you are a team leader, or want to organize a Mission Team, please contact us (see below).

Application Process

1. Submit a Mission Trip Application. We have many trip dates already scheduled, but also welcome inquiries for other dates.
2. After applying, you will receive an e-mail from our travel manager notifying you know if we can accept you application at this time, or if we need additional information.
3. Once you’re confirmed, the next step is to submit your trip deposit ($500, transferable, non-refundable). You will be automatically prompted to do this after submitting an application, or you can submit a deposit by clicking here. You may also mail a deposit check to our offices. With either method, please include a note with your name and trip date (please do not write on the check itself).  Once we receive your deposit, your plane ticket will be purchased. Even if you don’t go on the trip, you will be responsible for the full cost of your airfare.
4. The following applications will require special approval and references may be requested:
   1. Trips lasting four weeks or longer
   2. Applicants younger than 18 applying apart from a mission team or parent/guardian

All applicants under 18 will require proof of parent or legal guardian consent.

Costs

NWHCM offers two packages from which to choose for your trip, depending on your needs. Please indicate your package preference on your trip application when applying.

Package 1: The Weekend Warrior

This package includes up to five nights on campus. It is perfect for those who need a Haiti fix, have just a few extra vacation days to use, or want to spend your spring break with NWHCM.

• Option A: Adventure Package

This is a great roundtrip way to travel to Saint-Louis du Nord, via bus or Land Rover. This six-hour ride across the beautiful and startling countryside of Haiti is worth the time to experience fully the land and people where we serve. You will experience firsthand the beautiful mountain views, the valleys, vistas, desert and lush forest, as you drive across the changing terrains that make up Haiti.

Price: Airfare to Haiti, plus $765*
Includes all accommodations, three meals a day, travel expenses in the northwest zone, translators and security.

• Option B: High/Low Combo Package

This option combines the best of both worlds. It gives you the ability to fly one way on Tortuga Air, viewing Haiti’s beautiful mountains from 6,000 ft, then experience the ride of your life in the bus/car while traveling the other way.

Price: Airfare to Haiti, plus $855 *
Includes all accommodation, three meals a day, travel expenses in the northwest zone, translators and security.

• Option C: Deluxe Traveler Package

This option gives you the fastest route to the Northwest, without the cross-country adventure. You will fly both directions on Tortuga Air, where you will land and travel by vehicle to one of our mission campuses. Please note that if you choose this option you may have to overnight in Miami or Port-au-Prince to make your connecting flights. Tortuga Air is an independent company, as such we are at the mercy of their scheduling.

Price: Plane ticket to Haiti, plus $930*
Includes all accommodation, three meals a day, travel expenses in the northwest zone, translators and security.

*Please note there will be an extra $100 fee if your return flight to the U.S. requires an overnight hotel stay in Port-au-Prince.

Package 2: The Impact Classic

This package includes up to 10 nights in the Northwest. It is perfect for those of you that are coming with a mission project in mind, whether as part of a surgery team, the Neighbors Project, or another ministry opportunity.

• Option A: Adventure Package

This is a great way to travel to Saint-Louis du Nord, via bus or Land Rover. This six-hour ride across the beautiful and startling countryside of Haiti is worth the time to experience fully the land and people where we serve. Includes all accommodation, three meals a day, travel expenses in the northwest zone, translators and security.

• Option B: High/Low Combo Package

• Option C: Deluxe Traveler Package

The “Fine Print”

Refunds: NWHCM is a tax-exempt nonprofit organization. Under Section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. tax code, all contributions to NWHCM are non-refundable. Therefore, NWHCM cannot refund any payments made for internships or mission trips; Your trip “payment” and any gifts made toward your trip are contributions that are pooled into ministry and operating budgets. Per IRS requirements, all contributions are administered under the full control and authority of NWHCM, and funds are used specifically for expenses related to those ministry activities.

Cancellation: Travelers who cancel their trip for reasons such as a medical or family emergency have the option to apply their trip balance toward a future NWHCM mission trip, or to transfer or designate those funds toward another person’s trip. Both options are available for the 12 months following the date of the original team’s departure. That trip balance will be determined after subtracting any costs already incurred (such as airline tickets).

Excess Funds: Excess monies raised will be held for 12 months in case the individual decides to take another mission trip with NWHCM during that time. After one year, any remaining money will be redirected to the ministries of Northwest Haiti Christian Mission.
