Northwest Haiti Christian Mission opened our full-service eye clinic in 2003, and since then has helped thousands of patients improve or regain their sight.

Most activity at the clinic happens during annual visits from our eye team, a group of more than 60 ophthalmologists, optometrists, technicians, nurses, doctors, and other volunteers.  The team sees more than 150 patients per day at the facility, performing vision screenings, laser surgeries, ocularistry (artificial eyes), cataract surgeries, even corneal transplants, among other procedures.

Haitian ophthalmologists and their assistants see patients on a monthly basis at the clinic when large teams are not in.  They offer a complete range of ophthalmology and vision services, though surgeries are only scheduled when eye surgery teams are visiting.

The eye clinic facility is one of the largest in Haiti, with three exam chairs, two rooms for laser surgeries, a large optical station, and a phacoemulsification (cataract surgery) machine.

Our eye team visits Haiti regularly and – though focused primarily on vision care – is a multidisciplinary group.  We welcome medical professionals of all kinds, as well as general volunteers.  We train volunteers to perform tasks ranging from assistance in screening and histories in the clinic, to pre- and post-op care for surgeries.
