MISSION STATEMENT

It is the mission of the Miriam Center to see the world be changed by the raising of the next generation of children with disabilities. It is our utmost priority to care for the children and raise them up in Christ. We desire for them to be seen as human beings, to be children, to be raised into adults, to exist in the culture as deeply-loved individuals, with the opportunity to return that love of Christ and others into the Haiti they have been raised in.

ADOPTION

In accordance with the practices of Northwest Haiti Christian Mission, the Miriam Center holds a “no adoption” policy.

Northwest Haiti Christian Mission does not adopt children from any of its orphanages. Attempting such adoptions undermines the mission’s ministry among children, which aims to raise up Christian leaders who will impact their communities for Christ. Adoption also damages relationships between children and their existing sponsors.

Our goal is to improve the culture in reference to our children. Removing them from their situations will not allow them to have an impact in their culture. We want our children to be valued for who they are, where they are.

OBTAINING MEDICAL VISAS

Medical Visas must be approved through the Miriam Center director, the executive director, and the Board of Directors before any action is taken.

In order for a medical visa to be granted, an application must be submitted to the Miriam Center director. Upon submission, the application will be either approved or denied based on medical necessity. If approved by the director, the application will pass to the executive director, who will have the power to approve or deny. If the application is passed without issue, the board will receive the application to make a final decision. Upon conclusion of the approval process, the applicant will be notified. If approved, a host family will be appointed via Northwest Haiti Christian Mission, based on what is seen best for the child and the medical care being sought. The host family will not be granted long-term housing rights. The child must return to the mission upon completion of any medical treatments. Children will be allowed out of the Miriam Center only for the medically necessary duration of a visit to the appropriate location.

The application process for medical visas is in line with the larger policies of the mission. NWHCM exists to reach Haitian communities for Christ, not to facilitate travel to the United States. We feel this process is in the best interest the children to whom we minister.
