Trip Basics

Our standard mission trip length is 7 to 14 days, but we will accept applications for trips of other lengths. See our Ways to Serve section for ideas on how you or your team could serve while in Haiti.

When serving with NWHCM, we coordinate your travel, housing, food, and logistics for ministry. We have been hosting short-term mission teams for more nearly 40 years and we see you as a vital part of who we are and what we do.

We welcome mission teams of all sizes, as well as individuals who want to serve in our ongoing ministries. We are also open to families who want to serve together.
If you are a team leader, or want to organize a Mission Team, please contact us (see below).

NWHCM offers two packages from which to choose for your trip, depending on your needs. Please indicate your package preference on your trip application when applying.

Package 1: The Weekender

This package includes up to five nights on our campuses. It’s perfect for those who need a Haiti fix, have a few extra vacation days to use, or want to spend spring break with NWHCM. You will travel from Port-au-Prince to the Northwest via bus, which is typically an 8-hour ride. Hotels and the use of MAF charter flights in country can be added if requested or needed at some additional costs. This package costs $750 after the cost of your flights.

Package 2: The Classic

This includes up to ten nights on our campuses. It’s perfect for those of you coming with a mission project in mind, perhaps as part of a surgery team, the Neighbors Project, or another ministry initiative. You will also take a bus to the Northwest from Port-au-Prince. Again, hotels and the use of MAF in-country flights can be arranged if needed or requested at additional costs. This package costs $1000 after the cost of your flights.

Trip Payments

There will be a payment schedule set up with each group, as follows:

  • $800 due 90 days before your trip.
  • Another $500 due 60 days before your trip.
  • Final balance paid 30 days before your trip.
  • If you’re not paid in full 14 days before your trip, it may be canceled.

Every traveler must fill out and sign an application prior to approval for travel. The first $800 payment is non-refundable. If you decide not to go, you will be responsible for any additional airline ticket costs.

Please make checks payable to Northwest Haiti Christian Mission and mail to our of office (see website for address) or pay online here. If you mail checks, please include a note telling us that the gift is for your trip. If people donate toward your trip, you can check to see who has sent money to you if you log into your application. That way, you know whom to thank. These checks should also be payable to Northwest Haiti Christian Mission. All donors will receive receipts for their tax-deductible donations to NWHCM.

  • You’ll need a little cash during your actual trip for snacks, meals on travel days and souvenirs.

  • Refunds: NWHCM is a tax-exempt nonprofit organization. Under Section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. tax code, all contributions to NWHCM are non-refundable. Therefore, NWHCM cannot refund any payments made for internships or mission trips; Your trip “payment” and any gifts made toward your trip are contributions that are pooled into ministry and operating budgets. Per IRS requirements, all contributions are administered under the full control and authority of NWHCM, and funds are used specifically for expenses related to those ministry activities.

  • Cancellation:Travelers who cancel their trip for reasons such as a medical or family emergency have the option to apply their trip balance toward a future NWHCM mission trip up to 12 months following the date of the original team’s departure. That trip balance will be determined after subtracting any costs already incurred (such as airline tickets).

Excess Funds: Excess monies raised will be held for 12 months in case the individual decides to take another mission trip with NWHCM during that time. After one year, any remaining money will be redirected to the ministries of Northwest Haiti Christian Mission.
